I drive a "certified pre-owned" BMW 330ci convertible, which I bought directly from the dealer.  Evidently the only thing certified about it is that it was in fact pre-owned.  Just as I was about to hand over the check, he handed me a computer printout of the car's service history -- a meaningless list of about ten or twelve "service codes" with no description.

Had I not been dazzled by young bimmer lust, my better judgment would have caused me at least to ask for a description of the service codes.  It's been a year and a half now since I bought the car, and I've had it in at least a half dozen times for major engine work.  Cam shaft sensors, ignition coils -- and the same problems keep happening again and again.

After the third visit I thought it was time to pull out the car's prior history records to see just what kind of life it had had before.  Again, a meaningless list of eight digit numbers.  It also proved amazingly hard to find a comprehensive list of codes on the web, and the site from which I was finally able to download the full set has now removed it.  Therefore, my friends, I provide it for you here.  Since the total file is about 1.5MB, I've broken it down into optional smaller bites.  Just choose your code range on the gray title bar above, or select "ALL" to download the entire list.

And yes, this is me and my son driving the BMW through Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park in Arizona.  Well worth the time it took to clean out the dust when it was over.
